While watching a bit of tv, I saw a few previews for some movies. I quickly noticed that these frequently use performative verbs:

Rolling Stones declares this the best movie of the year

'someone else' raves that...

I was just astounded at how they stood out in these previews.

I don't think I've noticed that before, but you're right, they usually use performative verbs. I suppose it makes their movie seem better and more worthy of your watching it. If they only said things like "so and so says this movie is great" and "so and so loves this movie," it certainly wouldn't make people want to go and see it.
